Young Tartans

The original Young tartan dates from the year 1726 and was woven by Christian Young. It is currently in the possession of the Scottish Tartan Museum in Keith, Scotland. A modern reproduction is pictured in the centre of the three tartans. This tartan, with its white background, was considered a dancer’s or woman’s tartan, which was not appropriate for a male to wear. Derek Young, of Benderloch, Argyll designed and registered two variations of this tartan, appropriate for male attire, in 1992. The modern tartan, based on the Douglas tartan, is shown to the on the left of the Christian tartan and the weathered tartan is pictured to the right. Derek Young and his wife, Gloria, are pictured here as well. If you are interested in ordering a kilt, sash or tartan material, we highly recommend using Lochcarron of Scotland, in Scotland, or Burnetts and Struth Scottish Regalia, in North America.
